What often happens is we just keep adding wood, starting new things but when we don't deal with the old it suffocates the new.

A wine skin becomes old and unusable when the inside becomes dry and cracks.

Rubbing oil on the outside won't make the old new. The only way an old wine skin can become new we have to somehow get to the inside.

How do I grow in favor with God

There were certain people that attracted the attention of Jesus; what was unique about them? 


1. Child-like nature

Matthew 18:2-4

Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them. 3 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. 4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Why do we pretend to have it all together and know it all - a child doesn’t do that, pharisee's do, however. 


2. Position of faith

Matthew 7:24-27

Sand: ever-changing, in a state of constant flux, unreliable & easily dislodged. 

Rock: complete stability & solidarity, forged over many years of consistent time & pressure.

Paving stone: a man-made shortcut, looks like a rock, feels like a rock, made to look like the real thing but lacking the strength of time and pressure and Gods process and under any kind of weight will fall apart & is ultimately no better than sand.

What causes a prosperous soul inwardly to become a prosperous life externally? Favor is the mechanism that moves the internal prospering of your soul, to something that occurs outside of you, impacting your 'journey'. 

FAVOR IS A BIBLCAL WORD:

  • Luke 1:51 And Jesus grew in favour with both God and man.  
  • 1 Samuel 2:26 (NLT) Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew taller and grew in favour with the Lord and with the people.
  • Genesis 6:8 But Noah found favour in the eyes of the Lord.
  • Genesis 39:21 (ESV) But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
  • Psalm 30:7 (NLT) Your favour, O Lord, made me as secure as mountain.
  • Psalm 5:12 (ESV) For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favour as with a shield.
  • Psalm 90:7 Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!
  • Provers 3:1-4 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favour and good success in the sight of God and man.
  • Esther 7:3 (NLT) Queen Esther replied, “If I have found favour with the king, and if it pleases the king to grant my request, I ask that my life and the lives of my people will be spared.
  • Acts 2:46-47 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

A HEALTHY SOUL IS AN ATTRACTIVE SOUL. What we are reading here is that it is possible to grow in favour with both God and man. That favour covers us like a shield, opens doors with mankind, and is something that highlights us in the sight of the Lord. 

SO WHAT IS FAVOR? 

LUKE 1:28-38

28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

1) GRACE FOR MARY- THE ATTRACTION FACTOR:

" FAVOUR is the special affection of God toward you that releases an influence on you, so that others are inclined to like you, or to cooperate with you.”- Lance Wallnau

The Greek word used for favor towards Mary is actually charis (pronounced khar’-ece) and it is translated here and throughout the NT to mean ‘grace’. This form of grace doesn’t necessarily have to do with our salvation- rather, it has to do with the attractiveness of our souls towards God (and, as a byproduct: to man)…  As we walk in the grace OF our Salvation, and are lead by His spirit, that grace begins to transform us, heal our soul, and enhance our ‘attractiveness’ to both God & man. 

***FAVOR IS NOT FAVORITISM*** Now it is really important here to mention that favor and favoritism are not the same thing! The difference is actually equality. You see- we ALL have access to Gods grace. We have access to Salvation through Jesus, and we have access to His soul- transforming Holy Spirit, which allows us to live in His grace, impacting our attractiveness. Consequently, FAVORITISM is not equal. James describes it as partiality, and the Bible is very clear that partiality is not of God.

2) FAVOR HAS A PURPOSE

We see through the story of Mary that Gods favour was attached to a DIVINE PLAN AND PURPOSE- the birth of Jesus Christ. 

  • HAVE YOU EVER ASKED SOMEONE TO DO YOU A FAVOR?  What are you asking for??? You are asking that someone in your life to do something special for you.  That they stop what they are doing and focus on you.  That they give you time, resource, counsel, wisdom money,  the help you need to do what you need to do. 

*When someone turns their time attention/energy towards us, that’s favor. The way we receive favor is by being attractive to that person- normally out of relationship! This changes our 'journey' (making it one that prospers) as individuals also feel compelled to help REMOVE BARRIERS ALONG YOUR PATHWAY.

  • Sometimes we can want, or are frustrated that we don’t have ‘Gods favor’ but the reality is we do not understand that His favor normally means a DIVINE purpose (not one led by our flesh).

3) FAVOR REQUIRES CHOICE ON OUR END- Obedience! 

  • Just like when a friend asks for a favour, God’s favour is ‘granted’ but has to be accepted. It’s not a favor if your friend forces you to do something; and so it is with God. 
  • In Verse 38 we see that Mary says “May your word be fulfilled”- SHE SAID YES to the plan! 

For Mary, there was great cost that came with favor ON THE JOURNEY- BUT the divine plan- (the resurrection of Jesus), was what made the race worth running!

A prosperous journey is a GOOD journey to a GOOD destination. You see, when we ALIGN our soul with the will of God, our destination- our PUPOSE becomes clear and becomes kingdom-minded. 

To have a good journey, to be able to walk out our divine callings, we need to understand that a healthy soul leads to our attractiveness. It is the quality of the revelation of HIS GRACE in us that begins to transform our flesh, into a reflection of His nature and His spirit. That affection causes men to lend supports and resources along the way; removing the barriers that hinder us following through on Gods divine plan for our lives.

Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day.

The dirt on your sould may be evidence of where you’ve been but it cannot come with you where you are going.

However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.

Spirit - The immaterial part of us that connects with God and the part that is "born again". It is the source of power and control for both your body and soul; it is either evil or good, darkness or light, unholy or Holy, unclean or clean, of satan or of God

Soul - psuche (soo-kay) meaning life force, from which we derive the english word psyche. You don't have a soul, you are a soul. It's our entire consciousness, it's our humanity. The imperfect part of us becoming perfect through the influence of our Spirit, this is what is meant by sancitification.  

Body -  the physical component of who you are. It is flesh made from a collection of unremarkable mineral elements (but is mostly water) and is in harmony with the nature and spirit of this world. It grows, matures, begins to deteriorate, eventually dies, and then decomposes back into its constituent elements and remains a part of the dust of the world. The body is a part of you but is not what defines who you are.

2 Corinthians 5:16&17

Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Hebrews 4:12

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Live according to the Spirit (Romans 8:14), not according to the soul (Hebrews 4:12) and not according to the flesh (2 Corinthians 5:16, Romans 8:6)

5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life[d] because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,[e] you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. THE CURE

A child is no different to a poor person even though they have billions in a trust fund.  

Galations 4:1 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 

In other words, nothing ever changes until you understand how loved you are. Until you know it, you are no different to someone who isn’t loved.  

In the law a child doesn’t get access to a trust fund till they are 18. 

  1. Because the law thinks that until that child is 18, they aren’t mature enough to handle their inheritance properly
  2. But even more so they could be susceptible to the manipulation of older adults to give away their inheritance.

1.   The way you feel is different.  

2.   The way you approach PAIN and Injustice changes.

3.  The way you pray gets better results.

When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, the very first word was the word Father.  Prayer means nothing and does nothing if you aren’t really praying to your father.   The whole of Jesus teaching on prayer depends on the Fathers love.

The bible says that Whatever you pray for….. believe and you will receive. Maybe he’s not just talking about the thing you are believing FOR, but the person you are believing IN.  

The 2 times God speaks audibly that is recorded in the NT, he says the same thing. He leaves nothing on the table. It’s not I love you if…or I love you because.  

Matt 17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.  5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”

It was a revelation of God’s love for him that created unreasonable trust. A trust beyond the normal.  

Paul takes up the concept again in the book of Romans where he is trying to explain the grace of God.  Where he is trying to explain the radical concept that God your Father loves you.  

11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.   12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.  15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children

Now we call him, “Abba, Father. 

NOW……we call him……and he writes Pater, which is greek for father. But then he stops. I can imagine him sitting there after he has written the greek word for father and his mind is in a spin so after much thinking and praying, Right in the middle of his greek text, he inserts an Aramaic word called ABBA which was used by a child in that culture calling out to his Papa, his Dad.

I love what one dictionary says about Abba. Whereas Father expresses an intelligent apprehension of the relationship, Abba is the word framed by the lips of infants and betokens unreasoning trust.

We have to stop praying to G.O.D and start praying to D.A.D

4. The fullness of God comes to those who know they are loved

I want you to turn in your bible to Ephesians 3:14 and read what Paul wrote about this:

14For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from whom his whole family£ in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp(it’s something you have to grasp and grab hold of)  how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—unto youa re filled with all the fullness of God [may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and [h]become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself]!

(Gen 13:14 NIV)  The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

(Gen 13:15 NIV)  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.

(Gen 13:16 NIV)  I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

(Gen 13:17 NIV)  Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."

(Gen 13:18 NIV)  So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.

After Lot had parted from him, God said to Abram. Lift up your eyes and look from where you are and look North and South, East and West.

Abram had started with a vision and with dream. God had said to him to leave his home and go into the unknown. There had been a word from God to go. But along the way conflict and pain had come into Abrams life. The only family he had was his nephew Lot. They were obviously close and yet there came a conflict between the herdsman of Abram and those of Lot, until finally Abram reluctantly said to Lot his friend and relative. We must separate. You choose where you will live and I will go in the opposite direction. It was a difficult decision. It was one that brought pain to Abram and yet he had to let it go. He had to deal with this situation. All of us have a Lot to deal with in our lives from time to time.

Until Abram obeyed the Lord and let Lot go, he didn’t get another word or vision from the Lord.  Even though God had spoken to Abram in times past, God did not speak to Abram until he had let go of this relationship and this situation. 

AFTER LOT HAD PARTED FROM ABRAM, GOD SAID TO ABRAM, LIFT UP YOUR EYES.

What are you going to do after the tragedy, after the devastating experience within your life.  It’s time to let it go.

When we finally come to terms with these things, things that we have to let go of, we always get a fresh word from God, a fresh vision. You have to let go of the old to get the new.

God comes to Abram in verse 14 and says to him, I want you to get a new vision, and here is where it starts

“I want you to lift up your eyes from the place you are.”  

Abram was no doubt discouraged and downcast. Eg: People who are downcast always look down.

He was looking at the dust of the ground and God comes to him and says Lift up your eyes and look.  You have to understand this morning that you will never see the stars by looking at the ground.

It’s time to get your eyes off the ground. Off the negatives, off the things that aren’t working out.  It’s time to change your thinking and look up from where you are. Where you look is the direction you are going in. What you focus on is going to determine where you end up.

God says to Abram.  “Lift up your eyes and look from this place where you are, northward, southward, eastward, and westward.”

Don’t let your uplifted vision be confined to just a few things in your life. Let every facet and area of your life benefit from your uplifted vision. Don’t be satisfied with just better health. Enjoy abundance, enjoy prosperity, enjoy peace and relationships. God is saying to Abram don’t leave anything out of the picture. Look north, south, east and west.

God then goes on and gives Abram the key to making your life one that counts and one that experiences the fulfillment of God’s plan.

(Gen 13:15 NIV)  All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.

1.  YOU MUST SEE IT.

Notice God doesn’t give Abram map co-ordinates of what land belonged to him. He just said. All the land you SEE will be yours.

Until you see it with the eye of faith it is not yours. The blessings still exist, the destiny still exists, the healing still exists, but it becomes your blessing, your healing, your future, when you see it.

All the land you SEE is yours. Conversely all the land you don’t see won’t be yours.

We have got to start seeing. Lift our eyes and start to see. If Abram had only look in a 10 metre radius around him, then thats what he would have got. If he looked just to the North, thats all he would have got. What you see is what you get.

God wants us to see with the eye of faith, all the things that he has prepared for us. God says in Ephesians that you have been prepared for good works. There are things that have been prepared for you. There are husbands of faith, women of God, children moving in the things of God for you.  

You will never get it until you see it! And you will only get what you see.

There is so much more to see than we have seen. 

There is more! Do you really believe it? Then why have you stopped looking? Jesus probably won’t come back this year. Stop waiting for the rapture. There is so much more NOW!

Ephesians 1

“I ask the God of our master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory-to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, your eyes focussed and clear, so that you can SEE exactly what it is he is calling you to do, and grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for Christians.  Oh! The utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him.

In Hebrews 11 we read about the men and women of faith.  In verse 13 it says they SAW the promises of God and welcomed them from a distance.

Men of faith and women of faith are people who have SEEN something.

What have you seen? Allow a desire to grow within you. This is not all there is to life. There is more, much much more. Allow the Holy Spirit to birth within you a hunger for more. Open your spiritual eyes and look to the North, the south, the east and the west.

ALL THAT YOU SEE! WILL BE YOURS.

Secondly if we are going to be possess the land of promise for our lives, we have to stake out our claim.

Don't lost the vision and the dream.  

Not only do you have to see it, but you have to stake out your claim.

(Gen 13:17 NIV)  Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."

God instructed Abram to go and get the feel of the land he was giving him.  Go and walk through it.  Suss it out.  Check out the length and breadth of the land.  Indulge yourself in feeling it.

A lot of people see things but they never stake their claim on it. They never let it get into their spirit. They never allow themselves to really feel it as theirs.

You can imagine Abram walking through the land and imagining a great metropolis rising out of nothing.  Imagining the voices of children running through the streets.  His children, his descendants etc.

It’s time to stake out your claim. It’s time to get used to what you see, so when it happens it is no surprise.  I saw this happening in my spirit.

3.  SETTLE IN THE LAND OF PROMISE.

Not only did Abram see it, not only did he stake it out, but it says in verse 18 that he moved and went and settled in the land.

(Gen 13:18 NIV)  So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.

Not only did he see it, not only did he walk through the land, but he decided to move address.  He decided to move into his destiny and live in it forsaking the things of the past and instead embracing the things of today and tomorrow.

It’s time to move camp. It’s time not only to hear about our destiny. It’s time not only to see what is possible. It is not only time to imagine a great future, it’s time to embrace the future in the present and live as if the promise was already fulfilled.

Abram moved into the land long before it actually became his and his families. He decided to let go of yesterday and move and live as a new man in a new place.

It’s time to declare that it is yours and to live like it is.  

Others have seen that God wants their children to be blessed.  You need to start speaking that blessing out. They are mighty men and women of God. Start to live in that land. IT takes years often for it to take place, and there are many tests and challenges along the way, but if you are going to inherit it, then you have to live in it.  

 

There are people here who live in loveless marriages. God wants you to see something. His destiny for you is for your marriage to prosper. Let him open your eyes. See it, Stake your claim on it and then settle in that destiny.  Start to live and act as if your husband was the most loving, romantic man in all the world. Husbands start living and acting as if your wife was responsive and gentle and wanting to give herself to you.  

(Heb 11:15 NIV)  If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.

(Heb 11:16 NIV)  Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

Eg:  Elisha and Elijah.  

He saw something. HE tore his clothes and put on the new mantle. He wrapped himself in his destiny.  He then went and smote the waters.

He changed his identity.  He chose to deal with the past.  He chose to leave the past and instead wrap himself in his future. Not live in the past with a faint hope for tomorrow, but chose to confront and deal with the past. 

There will be tests along the way. When Elisha came to the waters edge, on the other side where 50 of his peers. People who didn’t think he had much. People who didn’t believe he could be different. He had a choice to make. Either live in his destiny and confront his past or be a failure.  He unwrapped the mantle and smote the water.  

It is not a time to hide the past or bury it, or deny the weaknesses, it is time to confront the past and change your identity.

How many know how you were born? 23 chromosones in your mothers cell connected with 23 chromosones in your fathers sperm and suddenly a fertilised cell was created. Then that 1 cell became 2, and then 4 and then 8 and then 16 then 32 then 64 and then 128 and then 256 and then 512 and then 1024 until that one cell had multiplied into millions of cells. 


Multiplication is in every fibre of your being. It’s how you survive.  


Just like God made your body a wonder of multiplication, he also created your soul and your body and your mind to be a marvel of multiplication. 

God uses your biology to communicate his theology. How he works, what his purpose is, what he is wanting you to understand about him. 

You are wired to multiply and to increase, and be fruitful.  


Gen 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply


Then after Adam has failed, God starts again and his second command to a new world is...


Gen 9:1
Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, “Be fruitful and multiply in number and fill the earth.

Again he says....

Gen 9:7
As for you, be fruitful and multiply on the earth and increase upon it.”


  • God is such a God of multiplication, the universe is constantly expanding and accelerating.  
  • God is such a God of multiplication that the entire earth is established on this principle. Out of 1 seed can come 100 other seeds which then produce 100 seeds. 
  • Whenever the wind blows, multiplication happens all over the earth.
  • He is such a God of multiplication that when he wanted to talk explain the kingdom of God, he used a seed to explain it.  It’s because of what a seed does.  It multiplies. 

Genesis 22:17 (NLT) I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number.

Genesis 35:11 (NLT) Then God said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Be fruitful and multiply. 

Leviticus 26:9 (AMP) For I will be leaning toward you with favor and regard for you, rendering you fruitful, and multiplying you.

Deuteronomy 8:13 (NIV) and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, 

Deuteronomy 1:11 (NLT) And may the Lord, the God of your ancestors, multiply you a thousand times more and bless you

Hebrews 6:14 (AMP) Saying, Blessing I certainly will bless you and multiplying I will multiply you. 


1.  God Speaks into Adam’s ignorance.

When God commanded Adam and Eve to multiply and be fruitful he speaks into their lack of understanding. Adam and Eve had no concept that they had the ability within them. I don’t even think they knew what God meant. Be fruitful and multiply. They have had no previous experience.  They have nothing to relate these words to. This is fresh revelation. God is speaking directly into man by revelation. He is activating something in them. He is making them aware by revelation of his plan and to draw out what he had put in them. Fruitfulness and multiplication is in them, but they don’t know it. They have no idea what it is and that they are blessed to multiply.  


Eg; Maybe that’s you. No experience, no previous understanding. God wants to speak new information into your situationso that you are fruitful and blessed and multiply. 


Gen 11:1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2As men moved eastward,£ they found a plain in Shinar£ and settled there. Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered (multiplying) all over the world.” 


What was it? Was it fear, complacency, smallness, selfishness? All i know is that against God’s orders they decided to settle. They were even prepared to build something big to protect their smallness. 

HAVE YOU? HAVE YOU SETTLED DOWN? HAVE YOU GOT HAPPY WITH JUST HAVING ENOUGH, WITH HAVING FRIENDS, SOME KIDS A CAR AND SOME FOOD?  IS THAT IT FOR YOU?  IS A CAREER YOUR END GAME?

If you have, you are living in contradiction to God and his commands and you won’t prosper.


So many people just stop. Why do people stop...........

Genesis 11 marks the beginning of the great struggle between God’s plan for bigness, multiplication and increase and mans’ fear and small mindedness and desire to contain. 

So God decides to do something radical.  

Genesis 12 God decides to do something amazing and radical. 

God searches the earth and looks for the oldest and most barren man and woman he can find and he searches out a couple of people who can’t but want to and says watch this.

God is looking for someone who can’t but wants to.

Insecurity in the dictionary is defined as

"Subject to doubt"
"Not confident or certain"
"Not firmly or reliably placed or fastened"


INSECURITY means to‘question one's worth, position or conviction." It means to QUESTION!  Insecurity will cause you to question your spouse, question your boss, question your teacher, and question God.

Insecurity aborts God’s agenda again and again in your life and our lives collectively because it makes you question.


It started in the Garden of Eden. Let me show you how.

Genesis 3:1-5 (NKJV)

1 “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”


The clear inference was that Adam and Eve were not yet good enough, that they lacked something.

He got them to question their position as King and Queen of the Earth and to feel like they were not complete. 

Eg; Cain and Abel
EVERY BREAKDOWN OF HUMAN RELATIONSHIP has at it’s core INSECURITY. 

The Answer Is A Revelation Of His Fatherhood And Our Sonship.

My security lies in the fact that God is my Father and I’m actually his child.  I’ve been born by his incorruptible seed. I am not like the son of God, I am a son of God.  

But, if we don’t have that revelation that GOD is actually our Father then we operate from out of an orphan spirit. 

And orphan spirit is one that does not know to whom they belong and the fruit of an orphan spirit is insecurity.

Insecurity affects us internally: our faith, our boldness, our confidence in embracing our future, and embracing each other, and it’s determined by our degree of feeling secure as Fathers son or daughter. 


Insecure people are suspicious people that have to control others


John 11:35 JESUS WEPT

These 2 words happen in the context of a real life tragedy. Not only is it a tragedy, but it’s created confusion, it’s made Mary and Martha unsure of their relationship with Jesus. 

JOHN 11:11 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume later on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.)3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” 

Have you ever tried to hint to God about things.

4 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days,

(Listen to the contradiction. He heard Lazarus was sick and then stayed another 2 days. Why????)  

17 On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days.  20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.  

(NOTE:  Martha went to church in her disappointment, Mary stayed home. Important to encourage the Mary’s to get out and come back)

21 “Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”  23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”  27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God,who is to come into the world.” 

Martha is only the second person in the gospels to say this.  Peter was the other.  Martha has what Jesus was after.  A shift from relationship to revelation-ship.

32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

Notice she blames Jesus here.  How often do we do that.

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked.  “Come and see, Lord,” they replied.35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” 37

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

40 Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”41   “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”43 When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out, 

The obvious question when you read this story is 

WHY DIDN’T Jesus TURN UP TO HEAL HIS FRIEND LAZARUS.  

Why put them through all of that grief.  Why would he allow people he loved to suffer for 4 days when he was only 1 day away.  He could have made it, but he didn’t.  


1. JESUS already had relationship with them like he has with you, but he wants more than relationship he wants revelationship.  

Talk about the difference between relationship and revelation-ship. Delay and a lack of contact in relationships cause a strain because they bring out the insecurity in all of us. Delays expose bring to the surface the worst thoughts and amplify our insecurity. Jesus wanted to take the uncertainty out of them once and for all.  

Relationship needs PROXIMITY to survive.  Revelation-ship creates A CERTAINTY that survives everything.


2. Jesus really felt the pain of his delay.

Jesus really felt their grief and their pain and has to hold himself back from intervening. He weeps with them. He can see that the wait for the big reveal has injured them and hurt them and it hurts him. He knows that he was only a day away when they called for help and they can’t work out why he didn’t come.  It called into Q their relationship.  Does he really love us. I thought we had a relationship with Jesus. Why didn’t he make us a priority? All these questions going through their head.  

  • Even though Jesus feels their pain, he is committed to taking them from relationship to revelationship. 

APPLICATION: I believe there are people in confusion, there are people who can’t work it out.  What you have prayed for isn’t happening. Why Lord? We know God CAN do it, he wants us to go far beyond that. 


THE RESULTS

  • Martha is one of only 2 people who has a revelation of Jesus as the messiah recorded in the gospels clearly. 
  • It was Mary in John 12 who poured out that expensive perfume all over Jesus feet.  Once she had certainty, she gave everything.  
  • Mary never stays home again.  She is at the cross.

You’ll never be prepared to give it all until you have moved from relationship to revelation-ship.    So get ready for a resurrection that reveals Jesus as not someone you have a relationship with, but someone who is worth giving everything for.

I think perhaps as powerful as what He says is where He says it.

 

Exodus 19:12

Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful that you do not approach the mountain or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain is to be put to death.

 

Its significant that this teaching comes from The Mountain because it is deconstructing a mentality. 

 

The end of the old testament ends with a curse

The source of our Stress is often our mindset.

Some of us had a hard time being genuine in our giving thanks this week because from where you stand it looks like there is nothing worth thanking God for..  WHERE IS MY BLESSING?! GOD OPEN OUR EYES that we might see what you saw in Matthew 5.. 

 

Jesus wants you to see Him in 20/20

 

Check your eye sight hold one hand over and read the Words right in front of you.. tell me what you see

 

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

 

Have you ever been pursuing a direction and then all of a sudden something stops you in your tracks?

Thought things like “I'm not where I thought I would be by now”?

Things don't seem to be going my way

The branch is being pruned

 

Verse 2: He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.

Cuts off / Prunes - Both feel very similar

 

Prune when there is fruit to make it more fruitful

Keep going in this direction

Cut when there is no fruit

Save your energy for more fruitful directions

Pruning will lead to stress without proper perspective

 

When we are Stressed the first thing we say is "something needs to change"

New job / New marriage / New church

 

The role of the tree is to remain, and consequentially grow and be fruitful. The role of the tree is not to try and change its environment. We try and change our environment rather than letting the environment change us

John 6:60

Many Disciples Desert Jesus

60 On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61 Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you? 62 Then what if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit[e] and life. 64 Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65 He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

67 “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

 

The disciples desert they stop following Jesus, they choose to disconnect from the vine

Remain: continue to exist, especially after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist.

 

What is your threshold?

Stress will test it and do its best to find the edge and push you over

Jeremiah 17:5-8 NIV

[5] This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. [6] That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. [7] “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. [8] They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

 

Many are called few chosen

The process to go from called to chosen (to bear much fruit) is to remain

Consistency is better than brilliance

 

One of the great secrets to remaining is a thankful heart

The enemy of your life will try to kill you through the tyranny of stress and weight of anxiety

When you are on a call and you are forced to hold for 5 minutes...

Stress comes from collecting things that were meant to be carried to Jesus

To carry is not indefinite it's transitional

You were made to carry not to collect

 

Stress comes from a giving problem

He's asking you to cast your cares upon Him. Do you have a hard time giving what you have to God?

 

Thats why It is more blessed to give

Acts 20:35

Remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.

 

Don't Bottle up your emotions

You wouldn't do it with milk

We bottle up our emotions and they go funky - your attitude stinks!


YOU WEREN’T DESIGNED TO HOLD ONTO IT - YOU'VE BEEN DESIGNED TO POUR OUT WHAT YOU HAVE INTO OTHERS

So why is it that we hold onto grudges?

 

Luke 6:37-38

37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.[c]”

FOR-GIVING

TO POUR OUT - IS BOTH THE ANTIDOTE FOR STRESS AND THE DEFINITION OF BEING BLESSED

 

In regards to your responsibilities, your emotions and your finances.. if you hold onto them you will become stressed and they will break you

You have been designed to give. God has woven the need to Pour it out into our human fabric

 

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave...

Giving has always been the vehicle God intended for LIFE.
